A few months ago I discovered an amazing song by an amazing band: Lucky Kilimanjaro. Thanks to this band I got enough inspiration to create “Lucky Sign”, a fanart in my style in honor of one of their best songs and videos.
The title of the illustration “Lucky Sign” comes from the mix between the band name “Lucky Kilimanjaro” and the name the song “Dance sign” (translated from “踊りの合図”).
PROCESS
I chose a cartoonish style for the character design, making sure that it still felt proportionate and human-like. To add a fun touch, I decided to apply a bold outline.
Despite being a relatively simple composition I added some lines to the plants in the background to create a little more texture.
For the coloring, both the shadows and the highlights are solid colors. To create the vignette, I simply used a blurred brush, and finally, I added the shiny effect of the final illustration with Photoshop using the raw camera filters.
